What is an edge IoT device in Fogwing IIoT Platform?

IoT Edges are IoT device or actuators that act as a source to collect data from sensors or machines and send to Fogwing IIoT. Edges could be physical sensor devices, virtual resources, wireless devices or any embedded SOM components or any PLC / SCADA systems. In order to ensure the data integrity and platform security, edge devices should be configured properly in the Fogwing IIoT Platform.

The following are the key inputs required to create valid edge device configuration in Fogwing:

Purpose

Edge Name

Must be unique name across your applications and account

Description

Give a brief info about purpose of the device and its scope.

Application

Pick application to grouping edge devices.

Edge EUI

Click on the 'Generate' button to generate EUI or enter valid EUI ID.

Latitude / Longitude

optional field

Pre-Conditions: An application should be created and existing before creating an edge device.

How to create a new Edge IoT Device in Fogwing IIoT?

  • Go to Fogwing IIoT Portal and login using your account credentials.

  • After logging in, your home page will appear.

  • On the left side of the page, click the 'Device Network' menu list. Under that click on 'Edge Devices'. menu.

  • Your Edge Devices list view page will display.

  • On the top right side, you will find the 'Add' button. Click on the Add button to prepare for edge creation.

  • Fill in the required fields and click submit button.

  • Your New Edge will be created and will appear in the edge devices list view page.

How to edit an edge device already exist in Fogwing IIoT?

  • Go to Fogwing IIoT Portal and login using your account credentials.

  • After logging in the home page will be displayed.

  • On the left side of the home page, click the 'Device Network' menu. Under that click on 'Edge Devices'.

  • Your Edge Devices list view page will display.

  • On the 'Edge Devices' list page, under Actions click the three dots and select the 'Edit' option.

  • The 'Edit Edge Device' page will open.

  • Make the needed changes and click on the 'Submit' button.

    How to clone an edge using exist edge device in Fogwing IIoT?

  • Go to Fogwing IIoT Portal and login using your account credentials.

  • After logging in the home page will be displayed.

  • Toward the left side of the home page, click the 'Device Network' menu. Under that click on 'Edge Devices'.

  • Your Edge Devices list view page will display.

  • On the 'Edge Devices' list page, under Actions click the three dots and select the 'Clone' option.

  • The below screen will pop-up.

  • The 'Edge Name' needs to be entered and the Edge EUI needs to be generated.

  • Once the above fields are populated click on the 'Submit' button.

How to delete an edge device configured in Fogwing IIoT Platform?

The device can be deleted in Fogwing IIoT Platform with some preconditions.

Preconditions: Device can deleted if there is no IoThub access and Data Rules are created. If so, IoThub access and rules must be deleted first before delete device.

To Delete Edge, execute the following steps:

  • Go to Fogwing IIoT Portal and login using your account credentials.

  • Click ‘Edge Devices’ from ‘Device Network’ on left side menu bar.

  • Edge Devices List View page will appear.

  • Click the ‘Edit’ icon against the Edge Device that needs to be Deleted.

  • Edit Edge page will appear.

  • Select ‘Delete’ button from the bottom right.
